Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell works as a journalist at NBC News based out of Washington D.C. Mitchell has a BA degree in English from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began in the field of radio and television reporter in Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. In 1976, she joined CBS affiliate WDVM-TV which was based in Washington DC (then WTOP). After two years, she joined NBC News as a Washington reporter. She began covering the White House in 1981 and was named chief correspondent for the congressional office by 1988. She was made the Chief White House correspondent in 1992. As well as the Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent at NBC News. Mitchell was a host and panelist in the TV news program Meet the Press. Mitchell joined the panel of the 1988 presidential debates which pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received in 2005 the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism at The John F. Kennedy School of Government. In 2004, Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA), honored Mitchell for her role to the cause of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the very first reporter to write about White House stories for NBC News during Ronald Reagan's tenure as president between 1981 and 1988. Mitchell reported on a variety of important stories including the Iran-Contra scandal as well as budget tax reforms as well as arms control. Mitchell travelled together with President Ronald Reagan several times for summits, and to discuss matters like the Iran Contra scandal.
